The people of Pitt Town, together with Police and emergency services, must be commended on the overwhelming and instant response by so many people, who dropped everything to assist in searching for the missing child on Saturday (Who was thankfully found safe and unharmed.)
Every person in our community must be proud of this response, which is something other communities can only dream of.
My heart sank on hearing that the young boy was missing, I headed straight to the detention pit in Fernadell Drive where there was already a number of people searching.
I believe that it is time all levels of government be made aware of their duty of care to the members of our community. They must take responsibility of delivering a safe and secure storm water detention system. This was a warning!
The Progress Association has been lobbying council in relation to this, for some time. Itβs time that all residents contact our Federal, State and local government members and inform them that our community demands that dangerous detention pits be removed or made safe before a tragedy happens.
If we must have detention pits, then they all must be at least of the same standard as the one in the Eden Fields estate.
One thing that can be 100% guaranteed, is that if we sit back and do nothing we will get nothing.
